Server Setting Change Request - callvote map

Normally I just bug Alta about this kind of thing, but I figure I'll do it the proper councily way this time.

So at the moment, in the AoF JK2 server, only admins are allowed to call votes for anything. I propose we allow any player to call votes for map changes.

Pros:
-More fun is possible when admins aren't on
-hopeful initiates can check out JCGC or XYZ (where we have heavy mapmodding to show off)

Cons:
-Players might spam map votes
-Players might go to an obscure custom map and AFK to keep people out.




Also, if approved by the council, a separate council decision about whether to allow GameType and/or SpecialGameType should be made as well.

Another con wld be server crash in case of unsupported map or inproper callvote of anything
(yes if they check e.g. map list on your site mc that cld be avoided but just sayin for sure)

I'm in favor, sounds legitmate to me.

Maybe, monkey, if you could detect when a person is AFK for so long and, when this criteria is met, have the map automatically change back, one of those cons could be avoided. Also, if you put a timer on the votes for non-admins - a few minutes or so - the other con might be avoided.

Jus' throwin in my two cents. I'm neutral to the final decision by the council.

Maybe put it then on a trial run? just idea

Yes-
Both ideas coded and implemented.

Then Dudeman's Two Cent suggestion seems like the best option

Dudeman's suggestion was, as I said, already implemented on the server. Thus reducing the threat of the two cons.


Now if the councilmember people could post "Yes, let's do it" or "No, I hate the common people", that'd be helpful.

I personally say that only /AoF/ers should be able to dictate what map the /AoF/ server is on.

And when AoF admins aren't online, people are just stuck at yavin_temple?

Quite a lot. I wouldn't have posted this if it wasn't an actual noticed-by-its-victims problem.

What if you, IF POSSIBLE, set the server so that non-clanmembers could only change the map once every 30 minutes to an hour? If it isnt possible please take this post with a grain of salt.

That's both a terrible idea and quite difficult to implement. So no.

Well I say Yes to Public using callvote.
But only to change map.
You know they can use it to kick others too.
So Only to change map.
